Use this checklist to stay organized, reduce stress, and make the most of the summer before application season begins. Starting early allows you to get a thoughtful head start, so you can enter the Fall feeling confident, prepared, and ready to navigate the admissions process.

1 . SCHOOL RESEARCH AND BUILDING A LIST
Create a balanced school list (reach, target, likely)
Explore each school's website and philosophy
Register for Fall open houses and tours
Talk to current parents
Narrow your list to schools that truly fit your child
2. BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS
Join admissions mailing lists for each school by filling out inquiry forms
Attend any available summer programs or campus visits
Keep track of contacts and interactions
3. ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT (KEEP IT LIGHT!)
Set a daily reading routine
Encourage fun writing (journal, stories, reflections)
Do light math practice to maintain skills
Focus on consistency not intensity
4. TESTING PREPARATION (IF APPLICABLE)
Determine if your child needs the ISEE or HSPT (secondary school applicants)
Take a diagnostic test
Explore tutors, classes, or prep materials if needed
Set a summer study schedule
Plan fall/winter testing dates
5. ACTIVITIES & PERSONAL GROWTH
Enroll in camps, classes, or enrichment programs
Encourage your child to try something new
Support deeper involvement in favorite interests
6. FAMILY REFLECTION
Discuss which educational philosophy matches how your child learns
Identify your child's strengths and personality
Consider what type of school environment fits best
Begin shaping your "family story" for applications
7 . ORGANIZATION & PLANNING
Create a folder (digital or paper) for each school
Track important dates and deadlines (some schools have guaranteed interview deadlines that are earlier than the final deadline)
Keep notes from research and events
Build a simple admissions timeline
8. RECOMMENDATIONS (PLAN AHEAD)
Identify teachers you may ask in the fall (Schools want recommendations from CURRENT teachers, not a teacher from the previous year)
Ensure your child finishes the school year strong
Sign up for parent volunteer opportunities
Final Tip: You don't need to do everything, but it is helpful to start early. A little progress over the summer makes a big difference in the Fall. For more help with the application process, contact Lisa Marfisi.
